Basement Renovation
We have started a fairly large basement renovation project – our anchor project of the summer
As with many family’s raising children, they reach a point where they need a bigger home and a decision must be made whether to move or renovate. In our customer’s case they love the location, the area, the schools, and shopping centres. they decided on the basement renovation to keep them, and there growing children happy and home bound. We have done many jobs for this client in the past and they retained us to help them design this project. The basic scope of the job is taking a 1000 square foot basement area that currently has a headroom clearance of 6′; we are digging it out putting in new concrete foundation so that there will be a complete liveable headroom of 8′. This job was designed by Triple R Construction. There were a few challenges to be met to have the design fall within the specifications to achieve a building permit as well as extensive consultation and engineering done in preparation for this renovation. Some of the features include in floor hydrostatic heating for both the basement floor and the main floor above. The new floor plan in the renovated basement will include three bedrooms, a family room, complete bathroom as well as a mudroom. A nice feature they are adding is 14′ x 8′ sunken garden patio coming off the family room that will feature custom glass doors. As of today, the concrete slab has been broken up into pieces sized for a machine to complete the digging. the chimney has been broken down to be removed, the foundation has been removed for doors to patio and mudroom. We are now ready for our excavation contractor to start the main excavation on Monday.
